The Indian system of rhythm is arguably the most sophisticated in the world, and has the ability to transform your whole approach to music. In this interactive one day workshop you will learn five of the core concepts of konnakol – a spoken language for rhythm from South India. Although the system originates in India, its application is universal and relevant to all instruments and music traditions.
By the end of this workshop your perception and approach to rhythm will be transformed, and you will leave with months’ worth of material to practise.
This workshop is open to all levels and experience. Although some of the ideas will be demonstrated on the handpan, all instrumentalist are welcome, and although an instrument is not necessary, you are welcome to bring one to try out ideas.
