Overview

The beauty of the handpan is that as a new instrument it can be approach with great freedom and imagination. However, many people also find themselves stuck and lacking in inspiration, and unable to develop their voice. In this workshop you will be given the tools to develop your sound, using the Indian system of rhythm, Konnakol, which allows for a creative approach to the handpan, while providing a structured way to explore the instrument.

Over this weekend you will become acquainted with the core concepts of konnakol, and practise various exercises and patterns which will be applied to the handpan. You will leave with an understanding of konnakol as an art form, and enough patterns and exercises to practise for months.
